Due to Hugh Laurie’s parents being of Scottish descent, they believed in god and all of his virtues and morals. However, Laurie stated that God didn’t play a significant aspect, but according to him and his parents, Laurie believed in a certain attitude to life and the way that one should live it.

In terms of schooling, Laurie was sent to Dragon school between the ages of 3 through to the age of 13. This was due to Laurie supposedly being a handful to deal with during childhood. In fact, during his youth, he was well known for being the type of student who would cheat on his French vocabulary tests. In an attempt to follow in his father’s footsteps, Laurie took up courses that his father took previously, which consisted of archaeology and anthropology. However, Laurie was known to specialize specifically in social anthropology. After competing in similar sports to his father, Laurie found himself winning multiple championships until he trained to the level where he was an Olympic standard rower.

When Laurie auditioned for the position of Gregory House in the TV series House, while he was recording the scenes for another film known as Flight of the Phoenix. The tape recording was done in the bathroom of the hotel that he was residing in. During the time he created the tape, he had to assume an American accent. His demeanor transformed and the British actor changed the way he approached the role and transformed his accent accordingly. The producers and directors immediately lived his acting and signed him on. However, it was not until post-auditions that the directors realized that he was not from American descent, which made Laurie the perfect choice for the role.
